India shows thumbs down to M$ open format

India has done a great job by deciding to vote a "NO" to Microsoft's OOXML(Open Office Extensible Mark Up Language) document format against the ODF(Open Document Format) proposed by a lot other companies who believe in openness. This war of formats has been going on for several months now. The voting will be held at the International Standards Organisation (ISO) in Geneva on September 2 and about 123 counties are participating in the vote.

Ready to Browse the Web in 3D???

Folks at SpaceTime have stirred up how you browse the Web by offering a free application that lets you browse in 3D! The idea is pretty simple, rather than to have a 2D layout of your browser with tabs all over the place, SpaceTime breaks the "pages" out like a storyboard in 3D space. It's impractical if you're looking at a single page, but if you're doing a search, it'll stack your search hits in 3D thus making it easier to see them all at once. It'll do the same for your eBay searches, letting you browse through photos of the stuff you want to buy.

Cool eh? check it out here!

Penguins have to still wait since at the moment, this application is available for PCs only.

iPhone fever?

Got iPhone fever? While the only prescription is an actual iPhone, there's a Slide 2 Unlock application for Windows Mobile which should hold you over until the 29th. It is a Windows Mobile start screen application that allows you to swipe your finger/stylus across the screen to unlock the phone, iPhone style. Can be found here!

Lately, Online office automation is being suggested as the next generation paradigm for collaboration between teams from different geographies and there's already a fierce competition between the biggest companies to dominate this domain! Major players being Google with it's Google Docs & Spreadsheets, gOffice, Zoho Office Suite and Azax13 Suite

Azax13 Suite is rated the best among the lot by ComputerWorld in this article.

Lithium Ion motorbike prototype!

Tesla Motors has finally resurrected the electric car in screeching sports car form, it's the turn of the motorbike to get all Lithium Ioned up. While it's not the first electric motorcycle, it is possibly the most rough and ready design: if you can afford the $15,000 odd fee for a custom modification, a team at the Electric Motorsport shop in Oakland will take out the nasty engine in your ride and replace it with an array of Lithium Ion batteries. As a prototype, the company created a fully electric version of the Yamaha R1 which has a top speed of 100MPH, a range of 100 miles, does 0-60 in 3 seconds!

Intel has announced that it is looking forward to quad core laptops hitting the scene throughout 2008. Mooly Eden, GM of Intel's mobile platform group, said that we won't see these quad cores in business class laptops for a while, even being honest enough to admit that there aren't enough multi-threaded applications out there to justify it.
